In 1915 the little
village of Manson looked like this. The lake was not raised
until 1927 to wipe out the orchards planted in the bay area
and the main part of town was still below the road. The street
running east through the photo is now Wapato Way and the main
thoroughfare in town. The tents in lower center were for the
traveling Chatauqua evangelism troupe - a popular event in the
early day life of many rural communities. The large brown
house in the center above the lake was a hotel and is now the
home of Modest Peters
